September 16th Tarquinia

September 16th
Today I joined the group trip to Tarquinia. The trip was mainly for the Italian Cities class to learn more about Etruscan ruins. However I tagged along for a free guided tour by the professor. There was quite a lot of information to digest.. like how to identify a medieval building, how to identify changes to medieval structures and castle walls.. etc.. Very interesting!

After we toured the city we went to an Etruscan Museum to see the ruins. I am not one for museums, BUT I found this one pretty interesting. Their were tombs and pottery and unbelievable sights from the museum, which once used to be the home of the rulers of Tarquinia.

After the museum we headed to the necropolis to see the tombs! When we arrived it looked like a bunch of mini-houses spread across the hilltop. The tombs were very well preserved and we got to walk around the sites and go down into the tombs. It was definitely something I never thought I would get to see in person!

After the necropolis we headed back to Viterbo! It was definitely a day of learning and sight seeing! Have any questions about Etruscan ruins? I have answers! :)
